For those who have been waiting to enjoy the beach this year, consider this your alert that summer is headed towards fall, which is the best time to come to the beach in my opinion.

I snapped this picture just up the street from the arrow on this Google map. It is the area referred to as the Point at Emerald Isle. We have had some perfect summer weather recently, but we have also seen regular afternoon showers. We needed the rain and for the most part we haven't had any rainy days.

If you are looking for a last minute beach rental, there are sometimes properties available at the last minute. You can also check my Swansboro or Beaufort travel guides for recommendations on other places to stay and even places to eat if you make it here.

Speaking of food I was wandering down the beach and stopped for dinner at the Crab Shack in Salter Path. I had a wonderful fried clam dinner. They actually use whole clams which is unusual for this area. The view from the restaurant is pretty hard to beat. You can also grab some fresh seafood next door at Willis Seafood Market. It is not hard to feel like you are close to the ocean and sound when you are in Salter Path.

The warm temperatures and lack of rainy weather have made this a great summer so far. If you get to visit, make sure you try some of the great local restaurants.

There are links to a number of restaurants in the side panel, but there are plenty more such as Yana's in Swansboro and on Route 58 just north of the bridge, The Fairway which is featured on the front page of my site currently.

I also do a lot of wandering in the area so I will post articles about great area places that I enjoy like the Smokehouse in Holly Ridge on Route 17 not too far south of Jacksonville.
